It's been more than a year since my last blog, and i've since then completely moved to (K)ubuntu from Suse Linux and XP. I had few minor issues with the previous versions Feisty and Gutsy like Wireless, Keyboard/Thumbpad issues, firefox crashes, but the current version Hardy heron seems to be rock solid till now.

Learn this language...

Mozhi is an yet another attempt by Radha Mohan to prove that a clean and decent entertainment still sells. Though the story is along expected lines, the cast and other technicians make this movie worthy... Though the story has Jyo as the central character, the others prithviraj, prakash raj and swarnamalya have equal part. Whenever the story appears going slow, the director comes up with comical situations, as he had done in his two previous movies. The scene where Prithviraj attemps to feel the silent world is brilliant.. This is the first album of Vidyasagar, which i've been playing all the songs in an indefinite loop, partly also because of hearing Vairamuthu after a long time... Even if you don't like the movie, i bet you'll end up learning atleast the basics of sign language. Go for it...

Guru - Must watch
There have been so many reviews written already for the movie Guru, directed by Manirathnam, So i don't need to elaborate much. And good thing is that most of the reviews have been on the positive side. Even from Taran Adarsh, who is known to never appreciate other than yashchopra, karanjohar type movies!!! I started searching in the web for more info on Ambani. And found this link - Wikipedia. Story is pretty much same. But it requires an artist of Mani's caliber to narrate it in an interesting way. And with perfectionist partners like Rajeev Menon, A.R.Rahman, Gulzar, Sameer chanda, you wouldn't expect anything less than a masterpiece. Every actor involved in the movie, Abhishek to Sachin Khedekar have given their best, so the movie appears very natural. The movie starts and ends with Jaage Hain, which will haunt you for hours even after the movie is over.. 2007 has indeed started in a positive way!!!

Switch to Linux Desktop

Last few days, i've been trying to switch to Linux Desktop from XP. And it has been very smooth for me. Not only that, the applications run very fast compared to XP. Check my desktop. Whatever software i need, i have everything that comes either pre-installed or can be downloaded from net for free. And i've more options to choose from.
Browser - Firefox, Konqueror
Email - Thunderbird, kEmail
Messenger - Yahoo, Skype and gAim
Audio - Real player, xmms and Amarok
Video - Mplayer(plays .wmv file too), Kaffeine
Image editing- Gimp
Office - Open office
I even have my favourite Google Earth installed. What else do you think i need :-)??? And the thing i dont need is Anti virus software :-)).. And i dont need to upgrade to Vista too :-))
P.S: I used Suse 10.1 64 Bit on HP AMD Turion 64 processor...

Suse 10.1
Here is the 64 bit OS distribution from Novell. I tried installing in AMD Turion 64 bit processor and the installation is pretty much easy, as you install Windows. And it's loaded with all the applications that u need, Open office, Firefox, Real player, Gimp & Chat messengers. If they market it well, it has a chance of gaining over windows in desktop market like how Firefox is gaining over IE. OpenSuse is free for download from http://opensuse.org.. Give it a try :-)

Office Online now....
Gone are the days, when we've to install MS Office if we need to create simple word document or spreadsheets... Now everything is possible online and for free too. Google has come up with Online spreadsheets http://spreadsheets.google.com, but my favourite till now has been http://www.irows.com. If you need to create a word document, u can just do it in http://www.writely.com, which has been acquired by Google. Good thing is all these work very well in Firefox... Way to go!!!
More Office web utilities:
wikiCalc - http://www.softwaregarden.com/wkcalpha/
gOffice - http://www.goffice.com/
P.S: Irows are now part of Google. Even though i like Google spreadsheets, i feel i'm missing something without irows.
